Trade between Bulgaria and Czechia reached BGN 1.2 billion, Czech Ambassador to Bulgaria Miroslav Toman said on Wednesday.
He attended a forum on defence and security technologies, organized by the Czech embassy.
According to Toman, Czechia and Bulgaria are significant economic partners. Trade between the two countries totaled EUR 1.2 billion last year, with overall turnover reaching EUR 2.6 billion. In the first half of 2025, Czech exports increased by 4.7% compared to the same period the previous year. Imports from Bulgaria also rose by 16.4% to EUR 653 million.
“We hope today’s meeting will further improve and boost these figures in the security and defence industry fields. Czechia ranks among the top twenty foreign investors in Bulgaria,” Toman said.
He explained that investments range across sectors such as telecommunications, media, energy, engineering, medical devices, and software, among others. Tourism is also an important area for cooperation, with more than 200,000 Czechs visiting Bulgaria each year, Toman added.
President Rumen Radev, who opened the forum, said that ensuring peace and security in Europe depends on taking greater responsibility for collective defence and developing capabilities to counter potential threats.
