A road safety campaign titled There Is No Restart on the Road was launched in Sofia on Tuesday. The initiative aims to raise awareness about the dangers of speeding, particularly among young people. Its message serves as reminder that, unlike in games or simulators, wrong decisions on the road in real life can have irreversible consequences.
The motto of the campaign seeks to bring to the attention of drivers, especially young ones, that unlike computer games and simulators, driving in real life does not offer a "restart" option and the consequences of a bad decision can be irreversible.
As part of the campaign, popular public figures and professional drivers will engage young audiences through demonstrations, simulators, and interactive activities designed to convey the message in an accessible and impactful way.
At the opening event, Sofia Mayor Vassil Terziev said: "Personal responsibility is crucial. Everyone who gets into a car must know they are stepping into something that weighs one or two tonnes and can cause great harm or take lives."
He noted that there are special tracks and places where people can drive fast and gain the adrenaline rush they seek, but city streets are not the place for that. Terziev urged young people to choose to be responsible on the road, adding that the local authorities would continue their efforts to ensure that more speed cameras are installed and roads are secure.
