The Prosecutors Chamber of the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) on Wednesday voted against the appointment of Vladimir Chavdarov for a second term in office as appellate prosecutor of Varna.

All members of the board voted against Chavdarov, who was the only candidate for the position. Among the reasons for the negative vote the SJC stated shortcomings in Chavdarov's concept for a second term.

Chavdarov's first term ended in 2023 after an investigation for illegal possession of ammunition was opened against him. The court fined him BGN 1,000, as it was a case of storing more ammunition than permitted instead of illegal possession, which the court considered a minor offense and not socially dangerous. Varna Prosecution Office protested the decision with no success.

A second investigation against Chavdarov regarding accusations of bribe was dropped in May 2024 on the grounds that no crime had been committed.
