Seven projects won’t be implemented under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan by August 31, 2026, and the likelihood of implementation for 15 projects is extremely low, Finance Minister Temenuzhka Petkova told a news briefing at the Council of Ministers on Wednesday.
This is according to an analysis of the ministry regarding the implementation of the plan, considering the short deadlines remaining for its completion by August 31, 2026, Petkova explained. She added that overly ambitious reforms were planned.
According to her, the inability to implement the projects means that all the investments that cannot be financed under the Plan’s will have to be covered by the national budget. This will have a very negative impact on the country's public finances for 2025-2026, as these funds represent a "significant amount" that may have to be provided by the state, said Petkova. “Therefore, we must be extremely precise and practical regarding the actions we need to take in the coming weeks,” she added.
In her opinion, each project and its degree of implementation must be carefully reviewed. “Where we can save certain stages and objectives of the respective investment, we will do so, but where this is impossible, we will be forced to reduce these projects,” the Minister added. To this end, she is working intensively with the other ministers. Petkova expressed hope that concrete results will be achieved within the next two weeks.
