Germany is a key strategic economic partner for Bulgaria. "The dynamic development of bilateral trade and investment is a testament to the stability of our economic relations and the potential for their further expansion," Bulgaria’s Economy and Industry Minister Peter Dilov said at a meeting with Germany’s Ambassador in Sofia, Irene Maria Plank, as quoted by his Ministry on Monday.

Both countries have the potential to deepen cooperation in areas such as advanced technology, the green economy, innovation and industry, the press release said.

"Figures show that trade in goods has increased over the past ten years, reaching a record high in 2023," Dilov said, adding that this reflects "the mutual trust and the sustainable development of our partnership". "It is important that we pursue our efforts to increase investments and enter new market niches," Dilov noted.  

He added that trade and economic ties between Bulgaria and Germany continue to deepen, with goods trade reaching EUR 10.3 billion in just the first ten months of 2024.

Germany is one of Bulgaria's leading investment partners, with nearly 1,500 German companies operating in this country, providing over 50,000 jobs, Dilov said.

He noted that rebuilding trust in Bulgaria as a reliable economic partner and a promising location for investment and business is a top priority.

"Our economic policy is focused on boosting investments for the development of high-value industries and services, creating high-productivity jobs, expanding industrial zones and technology parks, and implementing innovation," the Minister added.

Ambassador Plank said that strengthening relations between Bulgaria and Germany and accelerating projects of mutual interest is of key importance for the future development of the region.
