The Democracy for Rights and Freedoms (DRF) decided to support the formation of a regular Government in Bulgaria, which was elected by Parliament on Thursday, because that was the nationally responsible position, DRF Floor Leader Dzhevdet Chakarov said here on Friday at a briefing in Parliament. The goal is to put an end to the political crisis, instability and the spiral of constant elections, which have been going on over the past three years, he said, adding that the most important thing is to set the start of dismantling the "Peevski" model, referring to Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) - New Beginning leader Delyan Peevski.

According to Chakarov, this spiral of elections and the rule by caretaker cabinets has led to a number of delays and backlogs in the country.  

"The aim is to overcome  with this government the delays that we have both in terms of the Recovery and Resilience Plan (RRP) and in terms of the operational programmes under the European funds," he said. According to him, the necessary legislation regarding the RRP should be passed and the implementation of the relevant operational programmes should be accelerated because the country needs serious investments.

It is necessary to adopt the relevant legislation in the judiciary. A comprehensive reform must be carried out because this is very important for the consideration of investors, not only are investors not coming but those who are in the country are unfortunately pulling out, he noted. 

"A number of reforms need to be initiated in terms of healthcare, measures need to be taken to accelerate economic development. We all owe it to the politicians to bring the country out of the last place in terms of standard and quality of life. Our country has a very serious potential," Chakarov added. 

Regarding the participation and support of the DRF in this format for the formation of a parliamentary majority and for the election of a government and for stable governance, it is indeed principled-based - transparent, open, public, through the annex, which is part of the coalition agreement between GERB-UDF, BSP - United Left and There Is Such a People, Chakarov said. 

"We were involved in the negotiation process, we discussed it with the collective bodies of the party, according to our statute, which is the right thing to do. We are in favour of the election of a regular government, which the country badly needs and it is already a fact," he said. Chakarov said that to achieve a stable government, his party will give their constructive input and strictly monitor the implementation of all policies. "Once again I repeat, dismantling the "Peevski" model - you saw yesterday [Thursday], our colleagues from the parliamentary majority also expressed this position, we confirm our position - repression, fear, persecution must stop, there must be normality in the State and normal functioning of all institutions," Chakarov added.
