"Under the Constitution, the National Assembly can function even while a caretaker cabinet is in office, but BSP-United Left is adamant that this country needs a Parliament-elected government," Co-floor Leader Atanas Zafirov said here on Wednesday, addressing Parliament at the beginning of its new plenary session in a declaration on behalf of his parliamentary group.

He noted that the National Assembly should pool all the nationally responsible energy of its complement and end this protracted political stage of caretaker cabinets. "We need to return to the natural symbiosis between the will and vision of parliamentarism and its translation into reality through a regular cabinet designated by this Parliament," Zafirov said.

"We of the BSP-United Left suggest that we think through the policies that are needed in the country at this moment, and ask - is there anything clearer and more definitive than a signed black and white agreement on specific sectors, is there anything more transparent than announcing it publicly, is there anything more predictable than the public being aware of the tasks, goals and deadlines of such a government. And then, dear colleagues, all other declarations become superfluous", said Atanas Zafirov.

He noted that, according to analysts, possible new elections will not change the configuration in Parliament and it will be even more severe. Zafirov pointed out that today parliamentarism is weighed down by many things, including the 2025 budget, the liberalization of the electricity market, ensuring a clean and transparent electoral process, a clean and transparent judiciary, and expert regulators.
