A total of 60% of Bulgarians define 2024 as good in personal terms, the highest percentage rate since 2019, according to a survey by Trend Research Centre commissioned by 24 Chasa and published on Wednesday. Just over a quarter of all respondents see 2024 as bad, while 14% could not answer.
The poll was conducted between December 3 and 10, 2024, among 1,005 adults.
Nearly one in four Bulgarians, or 24%, see the past year as good for Bulgaria, compared to 28% in 2023. Another 58% see 2024 as bad for the country, almost the same rate as last year's 57%, however, a significant improvement on the rate between 2020 and 2022, which gravitated around 80%.
Expectations for the upcoming 2025 are rather positive, as 38% believe that 2025 will be better for Bulgaria. Another 26% think it will be worse, while 36% could not answer.
Nearly half, 47%, of the respondents said they expect 2025 will be better for them personally. Another 15% were pessimists. These attitudes were influenced by the age of the respondents, with nearly 70% of those under 30 expecting a better 2025, while only 30% of those over 70 sharing the same expectations.
The assessment of both the country and in personal terms is highest among the youngest group, aged between 18 and 29, while negative expectations become more common, the higher the respondents' age is.
