site.btaUPDATED MECh Leader Vasilev Calls for Elections to Be Annulled, Outlines Three Scenarios for 51st National Assembly
Morality, Unity, Honour (MECh) leader Radostin Vasilev Monday called for complete annulment of the October 27 parliamentary elections. Speaking at the inaugural sitting of the 51st National Assembly, he said that "we must acknowledge with great bitterness that the elections were flawed, that there was unprecedented vote buying, that there were countless manipulations that call into question the legitimacy of this Parliament".
He argued that the State has patronized all this and has become "complicit in this farce".
Vasilev outlined three scenarios for the 51st Parliament - "a maximum broad political coalition against GERB and the Movement for Rights and Freedoms", new snap elections or "a new vicious assemblage [referring the previous parliamentary majority between GERB-UDF, Continue the Change-Democratic Bulgaria and the Movement for Rights and Freedoms] against the Bulgarian people".
Regarding the first scenario, he pointed out that this would be a cabinet of shared political responsibility with the presence of bright political figures in it, a cabinet that would impose a four-year quarantine of the [GERB leader Boyko] Borissov and [MRF-New Beginning leader Delyan] Peevski model in the 51st parliament and deliver justice.
The third option "means a cabinet of the devil's throat to swallow everything, a cabinet born after new betrayals". This cabinet will leave MECh in deep opposition and "we will take extreme actions for the Bulgarian people," Vasilev said.
At the beginning of his speech he quoted verses from a poem by Damyan Damyanov, which he described as symbolic. It ends with a maxim that a man who has lost everything should not lose himself, his identity and sell his soul, Vasilev said.
"We wasted 35 years hoping for change, which inevitably turned out to be a replacement in the end. We lived together a false democracy," he addressed the Bulgarian citizens.
"During the three GERB cabinets we experienced something completely new - we witnessed the almost complete and almost impossible symbiosis of the State with the thugs, which led to the fact that today the mafia in Bulgaria has a state," he said.
"Our hopes that the model of GERB and the Movement for Rights and Freedoms, the so-called model of corruption, would be removed during the 2020 protests were betrayed first by There Is Such a People and subsequently by Continue the Change - Democratic Bulgaria," Vasilev said. People do not believe that anything can change because they have been lied to too much and for too long, he said.
"To be different from all this is our main task, to bring back hope and to empower the people to fight for their country is our main priority," said Vasilev. With the entry of MECh into the National Assembly a new stage of Bulgarian politics begins, he argued.
