The National Council of the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) proposes Assoc. Prof. Natalia Kiselova as the party's candidate for Chair of the 51st National Assembly, party leader Atanas Zafirov said emerging from a meeting of the National Council on Sunday.

He stressed that this is one of the important decisions that was taken by the National Council. According to Zafirov, this decision will be discussed and confirmed at a BSP-United Left coalition council meeting later in the day, and Kiselova’s candidacy will be announced at Monday’s sitting of the new National Assembly.

Asked whether the party would support GERB-UDF's nominee if BSP's candidate does not make it to a second round of voting, Zafirov said that this scenario had not been discussed by the collective bodies of the party (the National Council, the Executive Bureau, and the Coalition Council). He noted that the structure of their parliamentary group will be determined after the coalition council meeting, with seven or eight MPs proposed to be part of the group's leadership.

Dragomir Stoynev has been nominated as BSP's candidate for Parliament Deputy Chair.
