During a visit to Burgas University on Monday, caretaker Education and Science Minister Galin Tsokov said he has proposed an increase of teachers' salaries by 130% of the average wage in Bulgaria, instead of the planned 125%.
He added that in absolute terms, this would mean an increase of between 15% and 17% to 20%. Tsokov also noted that the Finance Ministry must determine the amount of the average salary and, based on it, recalculate as well as determine how many additional millions will be needed. He commented that the 130% increase of the wages will mean that an additional BGN 600 million in the state budget will be needed.
"At the last meeting of the Council of Ministers, it was decided that the 2025 State Budget Bill will be submitted and discussed after the formation of the new National Assembly and parliamentary committees. That is why there have been no official talks with the Finance Ministry about the budget framework that they have proposed," Tsokov explained.
