In relation to Australia's decision to terminate the term in office of an honorary consular official Sofia, the Council of Ministers Wednesday decided to withdraw its approval of Indiana Blagoeva Trifonova as acting honorary consul of Australia headquartered in Sofia and with a consular district encompassing the territory of Bulgaria, and to open an honorary consulate of Australia in the Bulgarian capital.

At Australia's proposal, the Council of Ministers agreed on the opening of a consulate of the Commonwealth of Australia headed by Yoana Kehlibarova as honorary consular official, headquartered in Sofia and with a consular district encompassing the territory of Bulgaria. The decision is expected to contribute to the deepening of bilateral relations through the promotion of economic and socio-cultural contacts and the ties in the fields of education, science and technology, as well as the protection of Australian nationals' interests in Bulgaria.
