At a ceremony at the Council of Ministers on Friday, caretaker Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev rewarded the two flight teams and flight planning specialists who evacuated the Bulgarian citizens from Lebanon earlier this week. "What you did was not only a deed of great professionalism and experience, but also of humanity and courage," Glavchev told the awardees. The ceremony was also attended by caretaker Minister of Transport and Communications Krasimira Stoyanova.

Glavchev said that when discussing the situation, his main requirement was that the rescue action be safe not only for the people who would be evacuated, but also for those who would carry out the evacuation. "You carried it out perfectly," he told the aircrews and other awardees.

The Prime Minister commended the Bulgarian services, partner and allied services, and all those who helped to make the flights possible: Air Traffic Control, the technicians, the air squad leaders, and the government employees involved. He stressed that their actions represent a decent deed and they are an example of how to act in such situations. Glavchev noted that the air squad has so far helped evacuate about 600 people, which is indicative of their great professionalism and experience.

On September 30, the first Bulgarian citizens who wished to be evacuated from Lebanon were flown home from Beirut on a government Airbus plane by a team from the State Aviation Operator. The second evacuation flight from Beirut was successfully completed on October 1. Eighty Bulgarian citizens and their family members landed in Bulgaria on the government Airbus, bringing the total number of Bulgarians evacuated from Lebanon to 169.
