1987: More than 300 people stage a rally in Ruse, unprecedented in the communist era. They protest against the authorities' indifference to the chlorine pollution of the city's air by the chemical works in Giurgiu, Romania.
1990: Sofia Airport joins the International Civil Airports Association.
1992: Bulgaria signs the 1990 Council of Europe Convention on Laundering, Search, Seizure and Confiscation of the Proceeds from Crime.
2012: Bulgaria establishes diplomatic relations with South Sudan.

On this date in Bulgarian history:
1918: Armistice signed in Salonika between Bulgaria and Entente (Britain, France and Russia), taking Bulgaria out of World War I.
1952: Forty people, most of them Catholic priests, go on trial (until October 3, 1952) on charges of espionage and conspiracy in favour of Vatican and foreign intelligence services.
1974: Medical Academy of Sofia opens Medical Faculty in Pleven, North Central Bulgaria (renamed Higher Medical Institute in 1979, transformed into Medical University - Pleven in 2004).
1996: Princess Sayako of Japan arrives at Bulgarian Government's invitation and opens Days of Japanese Culture. President Zhelyu Zhelev receives Princess.
2008: Interior ministers of Bulgaria, Serbia and Romania sign trilateral agreement on cooperation in fight against crime, especially transnational crime.
