The Council of Ministers has approved the establishment of a consulate of Namibia in Bulgaria, headed by an honorary (non-permanent) consular official, with its seat in Sofia and a consular district covering the territory of this country, the Government Information Service said on Wednesday.

Bulgarian Mihail Mihaylov will take on the role of honorary consular official. He served as Third Secretary at the Bulgarian Embassy in Addis Ababa from 1985 to 1990. From 2006 to 2021, he was honorary consul of Bulgaria in Namibia, based in Windhoek, and in February 2021, he was awarded the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry's Golden Laurel Branch Badge of Honour for his dedicated efforts to promote this country’s reputation and standing in Namibia and for his role in enhancing bilateral relations.

The opening of a consulate of Namibia in Sofia will further strengthen and develop bilateral relations, fostering greater cooperation between the two countries, the Government Information Service added.
