Customs officers found and seized nearly GBP 155,000 during an inspection of a truck at the Vidin - Calafat Danube Bridge border checkpoint, the National Customs Agency reported on Tuesday.
The truck loaded with textiles was driven by a Turkish national travelling from Germany to Turkiye. Although the driver stated that he had nothing to declare, an inspection of the vehicle found 37 envelopes containing GBP 154,660 in the truck's cabin.
Pre-trial proceedings have been initiated.
This marks the third case of detention of undeclared currency in a little over a month at the border checkpoint near Vidin. In all three cases, the currency was found in trucks driven by Turkish nationals.
