President Rumen Radev finds it very important for the political parties to assist the Central Election Commission and the government in organizing fair elections.

Speaking to journalists on Thursday, Radev said: "Overcoming the political crisis requires reinstating principles in politics. The parties should be very aware that trust is essential for their success, and trust comes from being honest to citizens." He warned that trust can be ruined if campaign promises are broken after the elections.

The President was asked to comment on GERB leader Boyko Borissov's idea about a "gentlemen's agreement" among the parties concerning the principles of possibly forming a government coalition after the elections. The President said: "Any agreement should stem from the expectations of the public. The Bulgarian public expects that the protection of the national interests will underpin every government policy. It also expects that the fight against corruption in the upper corridors of politics will begin at last. The parties should say how they are going to wage that fight, and they should say it in this campaign."
