Italian Ambassador to Bulgaria Giuseppina Zarra declared her country's continued support for Bulgaria's full Schengen accession at a meeting with caretaker Interior Minister Atanas Ilkov, the Interior Ministry said on Monday.

Zarra and Ilkov praised the traditionally good bilateral relations on all topics of mutual interest, including in the field of home affairs, and expressed readiness to build on this fruitful cooperation in the name of the security of the citizens of both countries.

In a working plan, they shared the measures taken to counter illegal migration and to guard the external border of the European Union. The caretaker Minister stressed that one of the main focuses of the Interior Ministry's work at the moment is to ensure a peaceful environment for the upcoming parliamentary elections in the country.
