The new academic year 2024/2025 at the Rakovski National Defence College was opened today. The ceremony was attended by Defence Minister Atanas Zapryanov and Chief of Defence Admiral Emil Eftimov.
The Minister reviewed the troops and a water blessing ceremony was celebrated for health and prosperity.
The College Commandant, Major General Stayko Prokopiev, said: "The military conflicts in recent years and the war developing close to our borders demonstrate new trends in the way modern warfare is conducted. Artificial intelligence and new technologies are changing the nature of military conflicts and require the building of a new generation of defence capabilities."
The Military Academy admits students in two master's degree programmes - "Strategic Leadership of Defence and Armed Forces" at the Faculty of National Security and Defence, and "Organization and Management of Military Formations at Operational Level" at the Faculty of Command and Staff. This year among the students of both specialties there are officers from the Republic of North Macedonia.
The Rakovski National Defence College is the oldest higher military school in Bulgaria. It was established by law on March 1 1912, adopted by the 15th National Assembly.
