Foreign Minister Ivan Kondov on Sunday talked by phone with Iran’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Abbas Araghchi and congratulated him on his appointment to this highly responsible post, the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry said. 

The occasion was used to discuss opportunities for maintaining a regular dialogue and active interaction on issues of mutual interest - both bilaterally and on the current international agenda. 

A special focus was placed on the Gaza conflict and its grave humanitarian dimensions. In this context, the efforts of the Bulgarian government to successfully resolve the case of the crew of the Galaxy Leader vessel, detained in Yemen, were also presented. The efforts of the international community aimed at preventing a possible further regional escalation and the possibilities to support these efforts were also discussed.  

The sides shared the understanding that the existing long historical tradition in Bulgarian-Iranian relations is a solid basis for a constructive future interaction.
