On this date in Bulgarian history:

1944: New government is appointed, headed by Prime Minister Konstantin Mouraviev (1893-1965). It lasts seven days until the September 9 communist takeover.

1963: First batch of Bulgarian-made petrol is produced at Neftochim Oil Refinery in Burgas.

2007: Monument to Russian singer-songwriter, poet, and actor Vladimir Vysotsky is unveiled in Varshets, near Sofia.
