Truck traffic at the Danube Bridge border checkpoint near Ruse is intense on Thursday, said the border control authorities.

"I waited in the parking lot for 15 hours and here at the roundabout I queued for about four hours until I reached the border crossing. The situation is the same at the Vidin bridge. The traffic is very busy," said Belarusian truck driver Alexander Karavaykin, who was traveling for Poland.

The border officials noted that for the last 24 hours a total of 2,528 trucks passed through the checkpoint near Ruse in both directions. 1,243 of these entered Bulgaria, while 1,285 left the country.

Car traffic in the direction of Romania is normal, as drivers are waiting about five minutes to cross the Ruse-Giurgiu Bridge.

On July 10, Bulgaria started a major overhaul of the Bulgarian section of the 70-year-old Danube Bridge, which is why the traffic is carried out in only one lane and Border Police officers regulate the traffic in the area of construction activities.
