site.btaUPDATED Kalin Stoyanov: I Leave with Head Held High
"I leave the post of Interior Minister with my head held high. I worked by the rules, I did not participate in political intrigues," said Kalin Stoyanov, who handed over the post of caretaker Interior Minister to Atanas Ilkov on Tuesday.
"I had the strength to stand up against schemes and dependencies," Stoyanov noted and said that he had not allowed manipulation of the elections, which cannot be forgiven. “I was not obedient, but I had not promised otherwise,” Stoyanov said.
He said that the "best thing is that the masks came down and we all saw unprecedented interference in the executive power branch".
Stoyanov also said, "Yesterday was a continuation of the circus that played out last week in the President's Office with President Radev being the key figure. He is the first Bulgarian President after 1989 who grossly trampled on the Constitution. We all saw how he took in his warm embrace those he has fathered and who he called 'charlatans' until recently". Stoyanov was likely referring to Continue the Change, who were strong opposed to having him in the second Dimitar Glavchev caretaker cabinet - as was the President.
Asked how his career would go from now on, he said "it is a matter of time" and that he "will work for Bulgaria and its Euro-Atlantic path".
