Vazrazhdane have tabled amendments to the Forestry Act relating to the change of use of forest areas burnt in fires, Vazrazhdane MP Daniel Petrov reported during a parliamentary briefing on Friday. The bill aims to alleviate public concerns and expectations in relation to the fires ravaging the country this summer.

The amendment concerns the provision related to the prohibition of changing the use of forests, in particular burnt forests, and the exceptions under which this is allowed.

In Article 73, paragraph 2, item 3 of the law, there is a loophole allowing investors to take advantage of the exceptions for the lease of burnt forest areas. This means that municipalities can choose to lease the areas for the construction of photovoltaic parks instead of reforesting the areas.

The amendment proposes that practices like that get banned altogether.
