site.btaPM Glavchev: Fight against Fires Continues

Visiting the village of Mamarchevo, caretaker Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev and Interior Minister Kalin Stoyanov said that fire alerts are being received every 20 minutes from all over the country. The fronts are large, temperatures continue to be extremely high and winds are very strong in some places. In this difficult situation, the most important thing is to control the fires and protect the lives of people in the settlements and those on the front line in the fight against the blaze, Glavchev said. 

The two have been in Yambol region since Thursday in connection with the fires. Glavchev noted that he had personally talked with all the mayors of the affected settlements. "They are extremely grateful to the firefighters, the military and the volunteers," he said. 

Interior Minister Kalin Stoyanov, who is chairman of the operational taskforce created by PM Glavchev, said that on Friday the fight against fires continues under full mobilization. Two helicopters of the Defence Ministry and two from the Czech Republic will be used. Turkish teams are also available for additional support, and France has declared its readiness to assist with two more helicopters. "We have heavy equipment, the military is also involved," Stoyanov added. According to him, about 70% of the equipment available to the fire brigade - about 800 firefighting vehicles - has been purchased in the last 7-8 years. There are numerous orders that are also currently in procedures, Stoyanov added.  

Prime Minister Glavchev announced that representatives of the parliamentary forces will be invited to the upcoming meeting of the Security Council at the Council of Ministers.
