Commenting on the complicated situation in Bulgaria arising from the wildfires raging across the country, President Rumen Radev said on Thursday that he is in constant contact with the Director of the General Directorate of Fire Safety and Civil Protection, Chief Commissioner Alexander Dzhartov, and the Defence Ministry. Radev thanked the Fire Safety and Civil Protection Service personnel , the military, the local authorities, and the hundreds of volunteers involved in the firefighting efforts, the President’s press secretariat said in a press release.

The head of State expressed gratitude to the Czech Republic and Turkiye for the timely assistance they had provided to Bulgaria.

In Radev's words, it is high time to provide sufficient funding for the needed firefighting equipment. "I really hope that once these fires are put out, the necessary capabilities will be more carefully considered. We have trained people, what we need is more equipment," the President added.
