Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) Deputy Floor Leader Yordan Tsonev Monday commented a declaration proposed by Continue the Change- Democratic Bulgaria (CC-DB), containing a package of legal changes to enhance the fight against corruption. “The actions of CC-DB are another brutal attempt to violate the Constitution. Thank God the President brought them back to reality", Tsonev told journalists.

Tsonev stressed that the State is currently in a procedure prescribed in Art. 99 of the Constitution for the formation of a majority to elect a government. In his words, prior consent for the adoption of a bill categorically contradicts the procedure set out in the Constitution. “The very way of proposing that the National Assembly should commit by declaration to adopt five or six laws that require at least three months of non-stop work, and only then to go through the procedure under Art. 99 [for forming a government], which until then will be put in the freezer, is at odds with the constitutional procedure. Thank God the President made it clear to them that there are constitutional procedures to follow”, Tsonev said.

Asked if MRF would support such a declaration, Tsonev replied that he did not see who would support such a "legislative madness". “These are people who did not understand that democracy is based on rules and procedures”, the MRF Deputy Floor Leader added.
