site.btaProsecutor General Sarafov, Bavaria Chief Prosecutor Roettle Discuss Combatting Cybercrime and Terrorism
Prosecutor General Borislav Sarafov conferred with Bavarian Chief Prosecutor Reinhard Roettle in Sofia on Monday, the press centre of the Prosecutor's Office said. A delegation of senior prosecutors from Bavaria, led by Roettle, is visiting Bulgaria at the invitation of the Bulgarian Prosecutor General.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Prosecutor General Elena Karakasheva, Iliana Kirilova, head of the Sofia City Prosecutor's Office Iliana Kirilova, Tsvetomir Yosifov, head of the International Department at the Supreme Prosecutor's Office, Vanya Stefanova, head of the Specialized Department, and Viktor Malinov, head of the Inspectorate Department.
The agenda was dominated by cooperation in countering cybercrime, terrorist financing, money laundering and the identification of terrorist cells.
Sarafov underscored the highly effective level of cooperation between the Bulgarian and Bavarian prosecution offices in cross-border cases. He noted that prosecutors in Bulgaria are increasingly working on cybercrime cases, which requires the organization of training for magistrates on how to counter this type of crime.
For his part, Reinhard Roettle said that international cooperation is an alternative in the modern world and thanked the Bulgarian prosecutor's office for the professional approach in the bilateral relations. He assured his counterpart that the institution headed by him is open to all forms of cooperation in the interest of effective joint work.
During his visit to Bulgaria, Reinhard Roettle and the delegation he leads will meet with Justice Minister Maria Pavlova and Interior Minister Kalin Stoyanov.
The Bavarian delegation will also inspect security measures at the Bulgarian-Turkish border.
