On this date in Bulgarian history:

1882: The first monument to Bulgaria's liberators from Ottoman rule, the Russian Monument, is unveiled in Sofia.

1947: An air service is launched between Sofia and Bourgas, becoming the country's first scheduled domestic air service.

1965: Constituent congress of the Union of Actors in Bulgaria.

1994: Parliament adopts the Statute of the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) (effective until December 1, 2011, when the BTA Act is adopted).

1997: Bulgaria becomes a full member of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation.

2006: Conscription service is abolished in Bulgaria.

- National Day of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Independence Day (1960).

On this date in Bulgarian history:

1921: Education until the age of 14 is made compulsory by a National Education Act.

1957: The first hotel in the Golden Sands resort, the Rodina, opens. 

1966: Diplomatic relations established with Canada.

1971: Football stars Georgi "Gundi" Asparouhov and Nikola Kotkov are killed in a car crash. 

1994: Education, Science, Culture Foundation is established. It works with children in the sphere of science, culture and art.

2007: Opening of the Sun Village settlement near Byala, built with 3 million euro of Dutch investments. 

2008: Association of Credit Consultants in Bulgaria is established.
