Caretaker Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev told reporters here on Thursday that he expects to have the European Council reach a decision on Thursday and Friday regarding the allocation of leadership positions in the EU institutions.

Glavchev noted that first a president of the European Commission should be elected. In his words, this could happen on July 17 at the earliest.

Asked about his expectations of forming a new regular government, the caretaker Prime Minister said the question is what the parliamentary represented political forces will do. He said it would be best to have a government elected with the first mandate.

Glavchev reported that he will bring to the attention of his EU counterparts the issue of adhering to the agreements reached with the Republic of North Macedonia. "I expect the agreements to be respected. I will remind my colleagues what commitments were made in 2022 and 2023," he said. Glavchev spoke about the recent statements from government leaders in North Macedonia that no amendments would be made to the Constitution. Glavchev shared that he finds it unlikely that Greece would remain indifferent to these issues.

Asked who will head the Bulgarian delegation to the NATO summit in Washington, D.C. in July, he said it will be the head of State. "Assuming the President will participate, he will head the delegation," Glavchev said.
