1877: Russian troops cross the Danube River at Svishtov during the Russo-Turkish War of Liberation (1877-1878).

1879: In Tarnovo (today's Veliko Tarnovo), Prince Alexander of Battenberg proclaims he is ascending the throne.

1946: The National Assembly nationalizes insurance companies, imposing a state monopoly on the insurance sector. The State Insurance Institute (DZI) is set up.

1985: The Bulgarian Football Union is set up.
