A procession in support of the so-called ‘traditional family’ is held in downtown Sofia on Saturday. The aim of the event is to "force" the State to start a concrete policy on the issue of demographic collapse in the country, the organizers said.

This annual initiative attempts to address the country's catastrophic demographic crisis, said Christian Shkvarek [name might be misspelled], co-organizer of the event.

He explained that the march is held on Zadushnitsa [a day in which Orthodox Christians in Bulgaria commemorate departed people] because the organizers of Sofia Pride have also chosen this day. "Our event is also always held as a civilized alternative to Pride," Shkvarek argued. He added that the organizers approached the Holy Synod asking if the procession could be held on Saturday and received permission and blessing.

The procession will pass from Alexander Nevsky Square, past the Parliament, Sofia University, along Vasil Levski Blvd. and Patriarch Evtimiy Blvd. and will reach the National Palace of Culture.

The organizers said that the event is depoliticized. Nationalist political figures took part in the procession.
