1869: The first "chitalishte" community centre is established in Veliko Tarnovo, later on called "Nadezhda."

1909:  Diplomatic relations established with the Netherlands.   

1957: The first hotel at the Golden Sands resort, Rodina, opens.

2004: The Central Bus Station is unveiled in Sofia.

On this date in Bulgarian history:

1910: Tobacco workers in Varna (on Black Sea) go on strike.

1911: 5th Grand National Assembly is convened.

1923: Military coup d'etat staged under General Ivan Vulkov's Military Union brings down Government headed by Agrarian Party leader Alexander Stamboliiski.

1948: Bulgaria joins World Health Organization.

1980: Diplomatic relations established with Grenada.
