The Interior Ministry is handing over 110 all-terrain vehicles to Border Police and thus completing the first stage of a public procurement for 360 all-terrain vehicles. A phased delivery of the rest will start in September and another 200 pickup trucks will arrive by the end of the year, said on Thursday caretaker Interior Minister Kalin Stoyanov at a ceremony to deliver the vehicles to Border Police.
He noted that all 360 vehicles were purchased with 75% EU and 25% budget funds, and the order was completed within eight months. Stoyanov pointed out that the launch and implementation of such an order in such a short period is a precedent.
Regarding the 462 new vehicles (35 BMW, 200 Golf 8, and 227 Skoda Kodiaq) which Traffic Police received on Wednesday, Minister Stoyanov said that they were purchased entirely with funds from the Traffic Safety Fund, where the funds from fines imposed by the Ministry of Interior are collected. According to him, this money can only be used for road safety reasons, such as the purchase of technical means, cameras, and vehicles for traffic control.
