During the opening of the 12th Balkan Legal Forum on Thursday, its founder and co-chairman lawyer Borislav Boyanov said that there has never been a more dynamic time in which to practise law. The forum is taking place in Sofia on June 6 and 7.

Boyanov listed some of the current challenges, including the political crisis and the COVID-19 pandemic, social turbulence and digitalization. All challenges are a reason to upgrade the skills of modern lawyers, Boyanov said.

The forum is organized by the International Association of Lawyers and the Bulgarian Foundation for Legal Development. Representatives from more than 30 countries on three continents will take part in the forum, which focuses on the theme: "The Modern Lawyer".

The event will focus on issues related to the challenges and opportunities that lawyers face, including latest trends, technologies and strategies that shape the practice of the profession.

The working environment is changing much faster than before, said Robert Miller, head of the Cambridge Strategy Group, adding that it is a challenge for law firms to continue to operate in this dynamic environment. This includes the ever-changing world of technology, and the development of artificial intelligence, he added.

The Balkan Legal Forum is an initiative that started 24 years ago with the aim of consolidating the role of the legal profession and developing professional cooperation between lawyers from South-Eastern Europe, as well as between them and their colleagues from Europe and the rest of the world, said the organizers of the event.

This year, the event is supported by the Southeast European Legal Group, Bulgarian bar associations, the Supreme Bar Council and the Council of the Sofia Bar Association.
