Projects in health and education were presented on Thursday by Rotary Bulgaria during a round table on "Health and Education: Possible Solutions to Overcome the Demographic Crisis".

A project titled "Donate Blood, Save Life" proposes to provide a mobile centre that would make it possible to donate blood in various settlements and outlying locations and in large collectives, said Prof. Karolina Lyubomirova, Vice-Rector of the Medical University of Sofia. "We rely on support from the Ministry of Health," she added. In her words, 167,000 donors donated nearly 73,000 litres of blood last year.

Under another project, "Early Detection of Breast Cancer", 18,877 examinations were carried out in 77 municipalities in the 2012-2022 period, said Dr Nikolay Boltadzhiev, member of Rotary Bulgaria. "During that period, 192 carcinomas, 652 cysts and 323 adenomas were detected and all diagnosed women were referred for further diagnosis and treatment to specialized medical facilities," he said.

The Patient Safety Project seeks to increase patient safety and minimize risk during treatment, Rotary Bulgaria explained. The project proposes the setting up of a system of reporting, recording and analyzing adverse events and instances of failed treatment and medical errors, said Dr Stoycho Katsarov of the Centre for Protection of Rights in Healthcare.

An eight-years-old project, entitled "Give Way to Life", aims at compiling information materials to change the attitudes of young people and the public and cultivate high intolerance to road rage. 

The Dynamic Classroom Project has three main objectives: to elicit an active stance in pupils during the learning process through team and project work, as well as activities in a technology-rich environment; to teach knowledge and personal competences; and to develop critical and logical thinking.
