At the Ministerial Conference on Implementation and Operationalization of EU Pact Asylum and Migration, taking place on April 29-30 in Ghent, Belguim, Bulgaria was represented at the forum by Deputy Interior Minister Stoyan Temelakiev, the press centre of the line ministry said on Monday.

Delegates discussed steps to prepare the implementation of the Pact during the 2-year transition period. Bulgaria stressed that this is an ambitious and priority task that requires regular discussion and monitoring by the Council of the EU and coordination by the European Commission. Deputy Minister Temelakiev informed that Bulgaria is working proactively and has already created conditions for the implementation of some mechanisms from the Pact.

The financial and operational resources needed to ensure the implementation of the Pact were also discussed. Deputy Minister Temelakiev focused to the various needs of the member states related to capacity building for the implementation of the Pact. In this sense, he highlighted the need to prioritize the allocation of funds to countries located on the front line, as well as planning and structuring of the process.
