site.btaSlovene President Visits Plovdiv, Former Home to Linguist Anton Bezensek

Slovenia's President Natasa Pirc Musar, who was ending a three-day visit to Bulgaria at the invitation of her counterpart Rumen Radev, met with Kostadin Dimitrov, Mayor of Bulgaria's second most populous city of Plovdiv, the municipal administration said in a press release on Wednesday. The guest also met with Plovdiv University students.

Pirc Musar said she was glad to visit the city, where Slovene linguist Anton Bezensek (1854-1915) made a home. "Thank you, Plovdiv, for looking after his monument," she wrote in the book of honorary guests of the municipality.

The meeting with the mayor was also attended by Slovene Ambassador to Bulgaria Natasha Bergel and Bulgarian Ambassador to Slovenia Krasimir Bozhanov.

President Pirc Musar and Mayor Dimitrov made a floral tribute at Bezensek's monument. Historian Stefan Shivachev spoke about the life of the Slovene linguist, journalist and shorthand expert, who taught at local high schools. He introduced ethics as a school subject and used up-to-date methods for teaching foreign languages.

At Plovdiv University, Pirc Musar met with students from all faculties.
