Bulgarian Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov and his Lithuanian counterpart Ingrida Simonyte discussed fight against disinformation and countering Russian propaganda on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference on Friday, the Council of Ministers said on Facebook. The issue is particularly sensitive in both countries in the context of the upcoming European Parliament elections and the ongoing war in Ukraine.
The two sides warned that all countries in Eastern Europe are at risk if Putin is not stopped in Ukraine. "Europe and European countries must work to improve their security," Denkov said, pointing to Bulgaria's efforts to modernize its army and improve its defence. He also stressed the strategic importance of the connectivity along the North-South axis that Greece, Bulgaria and Romania are working on, including for enhancing military mobility.
Simonyte expressed special support for Bulgaria's accession to the euro area.
On the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference, the Bulgarian Prime Minister also held talks with Austrian Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg, US Under Secretary of Homeland Security for Strategy, Policy, and Plans Robert Silvers, and US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken.
