The US Department of Homeland Security is actively assisting Bulgaria to enter the visa waiver program, Under Secretary of Homeland Security for Strategy, Policy, and Plans Robert Silvers told Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov at a meeting during the Munich Security Conference here on Friday, the Bulgarian Government information service reported on its Facebook page.
A mission from the Department of Homeland Security is also due to visit Bulgaria. The US side has expressed readiness to help Bulgaria strengthen control at its external borders, Denkov's Cabinet said.
The talks also focused on the fight against organised crime and the readiness to strengthen cooperation and information exchange between the two countries to prevent trafficking in humans, weapons and dual-use goods and drugs.
As part of their participation in the forum, Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov and Deputy Prime Minister Mariya Gabriel also held a meeting with US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken earlier in the day.
