Mountain Rescue Service Advises Tourists to Follow Markings, Use Avalanche Equipment

Tourists should follow the winter markings in mountains and use avalanche equipment, the Mountain Rescue Service told BTA here on Tuesday.

A snowboarder was killed by an avalanche in Rila Mountain on Monday.

Temperatures in the mountains are below freezing. The weather is cloudy and calm. There is light snow in places. Visibility is reduced on mountain tops. Conditions are not suitable for tourism.

The ski lifts are working on Vitosha, Bansko and Borovets. The ski zones in Pamporovo are partially opened after lightning strikes damaged some of the facilities on Monday.

Snow is expected in the mountains on Tuesday, rain below 1,200 metres. Moderate to strong northwesterly wind. Highs: around 5C at 1,200 metres and around minus 1C at 2,000 metres above sea level.
