Deputy PM to Host National Conference on Prevention, Combatting of Human Trafficking

The Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Minister and Chair of the National Commission for Combatting Trafficking in Human Beings, Mariya Gabriel, will host a national conference on the prevention and combatting of human trafficking on January 26, her Ministry's press centre said on Wednesday. The forum will take place at 10 am at the Boyana Residence. 

The event will be attended by Interior Minister Kalin Stoyanov and EU Anti-Trafficking Coordinator Diane Schmitt. EU Commissioner for Home Affairs Ylva Johansson, US Ambassador-at-Large to Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons Cindy Dyer and OSCE Special Representative and Co-ordinator for Combatting Trafficking in Human Beings Dr. Kari Johnstone will make video addresses.

The event will feature two panels: "Bulgaria’s strategic vision of combatting human trafficking: good practices, challenges, and perspectives" and "Measures for sustainable solutions in the fight against human trafficking".

The conference is a call for dialogue between all stakeholders at the national and international level aimed at identifying the challenges and perspectives in developing a strategic vision for Bulgaria in the fight against human trafficking. Participants are invited to outline good practices, identify necessary measures, and seek sustainable solutions for the effective prevention and counteraction of this crime.

The event will be attended by representatives of Bulgarian institutions, politicians, public figures, representatives of international monitoring organizations, academia, and NGOs, the press release said.
