"Today we celebrate the birth of a new life, which comes tot his world thanks to your work," Health Minister Hristo Hinkov addressed the medical obstetrics and gynecology workers on the occasion of their professional holiday, January 21, when midwives and maternity care are celebrated.

The address, published on the Ministry's website, further reads: "I am honored to have this opportunity to express my respect for the efforts you are making to have more healthy babies in our country. Dedicated to the cause of giving life, with your "golden" hands, you make the dream of many Bulgarian couples come true - to become parents. That is why we trust in your experience and professionalism, which you prove every day," Hinkov said.

"I believe that regardless of the challenges our society is facing, you will continue to be so dedicated in caring for the health of mothers and their newborn children," the Minister also said.

The Day of Maternity Care has been celebrated since 1951 by decree of the Presidium of the National Assembly as the Day of Maternity Care and of Midwives and Gynaecologists, shows a check by BTA's Reference Department. The date was chosen based on the Babinden (Midwives Day) holiday, observed on January 21 old style and on January 8 new style. On this day, professionals in maternity care - doctors and midwives, reflect on their work, while mothers express their gratitude and appreciation for the care and dedication.
