Ireland's Ambassador to Bulgaria Martina Feeney will facilitate the twinning of Kazanlak with the Irish town of Tralee, the press centre Kazanlak's local administration announced on its website. Tralee is known for its annual rose festival and has rose bushes from all over the world.

Ambassador Feeney's proposal was made during her visit to Kazanlak and a meeting with Mayor Galina Stoyanova, which was also attended by Deputy Mayor Srebra Kaseva, the manager of the local hospital, Dr. Keti Manalova, and the manager of the day care centre for adults with disabilities, Evelina Kostova.

During the meeting, the Irish Ambassador was introduced to the history of Kazanlak and was impressed by the rich cultural heritage of the region, the local administration said. Srebra Kaseva expressed her wish that Kazanak would join the cities that illuminate landmark buildings in green on Saint Patrick's Day, which is Ireland's national day observed on March 17.

During the talks, Dr. Manolova highlighted the need for new hemodialysis machines and the need for assistance for the hospital's Mental Health Unit. The meeting ended with Evelina Kostova thanking for the donation of a bus to the day care centre, made by the Irish Smurfit Kappa Foundation.
