Bulgaria became a full member state of the United Nations (UN) on 14 December 1955 along with 15 other countries. The decision was taken by the UN General Assembly on the recommendation of the Security Council.
The accession of the People's Republic of Bulgaria was approved with 50 votes for, 2 against (China, Cuba) and 5 abstentions (Greece, Netherlands, Philippines, the US, Dominican Republic). The delegate of Ethiopia, who entered the Chamber at the time of the vote, also voted in favour of Bulgaria.
