The Energy and Water Regulatory Commission (EWRC) Thursday approved an annual report and comparative analysis of Bulgaria's water and sewerage sector in 2022. According to the data, last year the sector reached or exceeded the long-term levels of key quality indices, such as: water supply coverage; potable water quality in large and small water supply zones; continuousness of water supply; active control of leaks; energy efficiency of waste water purification.

The sector reports positive trends in efficiency compared to 2021, including an improvement in energy efficiency of water supply, quality of waste water and utilization of sediment from waste water treatment. The sector also reports an improvement in debt collection and the personnel's efficiency in supplying water.

At the same time, last year saw negative upward trends in the levels of water loss and technological accidents affecting water and sewerage networks compared to 2021. A drop was registered in the share of rehabilitated networks and operational water meters.

The report provides information on the electricity from renewable energy sources produced by water and sewerage operators. According to the EWRC, the operators are doing a better job than before in introducing information registers and databases in implementation of the regulator's requirements.

The document also provides data on every water and sewerage company which had an approved business plan for 2022.

The annual report and comparative analysis will be published in the EWRC website's Water and Sewerage/Information Systems section. The annual reports for previous years are available there as well.
