The upcoming tasks of both Sofia Municipality and the municipalities are at the centre of the Government's attention, Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov said on Tuesday after his meeting with the newly elected mayor of Sofia Vasil Terziev.

We have met before only occasionally, so to a large extent this was a get-to-know-you meeting. He brought up some of the common issues on which his team knows it needs to work intensively - education and culture, infrastructure, municipal funding, Denkov said.

The Prime Minister stressed that a meeting of the Government with representatives of the National Association of Municipalities in Bulgaria is to be held soon.

Mayor Terziev said he will initiate meetings with all political parties and their representatives to find a way to reduce tensions and have a working city council, adding that he was optimistic about solving the case with the election of its chairman. He also said that at the end of the week he will announce to the media the team he will work with in the Sofia Municipality.

On Monday, after two attempts, at its first meeting in office, the Sofia Municipal Council failed to elect a chairman. A new meeting is scheduled for November 20.
