site.btaFocus Is on Low-Budget Projects Accommodating Asymmetric Effect in Modern Conflicts, Land Forces Commander Says

The Bulgarian Land Forces Commander, Major General Deyan Deshkov, told reporters the Land Forces' focus is on budget projects which would help to achieve the necessary asymmetric effect in modern conflicts. He participated in Monday's roundtable on the application of affordable technologies and products with a large asymmetric effect in modern conflicts.

The event is organized by the presidential institution.

Gen. Deshkov cited low-budget projects including the soldier's personal and surveillance equipment. The current capabilities are not adequate, he said. The next step is to acquire and train personnel. The easiest approach would be to have legislation regulating collaboration with industry.

Some Bulgarian companies have developed drones and a contract has been signed for the acquisition of drones with one of them, Gen. Deshkov said.

Asked about the planned acquisition of 183 Stryker combat vehicles, which has been approved by the cabinet and by the parliamentary Defence Committee, he said it needs the approval of the National Assembly at a plenary sitting. This is a requirement for all defence-related procurement projects of a value exceeding BGN 100 million.
