The Central Election Commission (CEC) has asked the Directorate-General of Civil Registration and Administrative Services (DGCRAS) and its territorial divisions to conduct a check after the upcoming local elections to uncover possible violations of the voting rules set in the Election Code, the CEC press office reported on Wednesday.

The check will be based on the voters' lists and any accompanying certificates, declarations, accounts of delisted voters and lists of attendants. The papers should be made available by municipal election commissions within three days of submission of the tally sheets.

The check should cover all people who will have voted in the elections according to the voters' lists.

The inspectors will look for possible evidence of double voting, whether there were any voters who were ineligible to go to the polls on account of being under 18 years old, or people who were legally barred from voting, were serving a life sentence or died before polling day, people who did not hold Bulgarian citizenship or did not have permanent-address registration in the respective settlement.

Offenders will be named on a list which DGCRAS will present to CEC.
