266 People Detained in Police Operation against Illegal Migration

A total of 266 people were detained on Thursday in an Interior Ministry operation against illegal migration ordered by its Chief Secretary Zhivko Kotsev. Of those arrested, 216 were illegal foreigners, 24 were facilitating illegal migration, while 26 were detained for other offences. A total of 65 pre-trial proceedings were initiated and various narcotics were seized. Among the detained were 15 people declared wanted by the state.

Some 1,600 addresses, 24,786 vehicles and 36,448 people have been checked by the National Police General Directorate, the Sofia Metropolitan Directorate of Interior Affairs and regional directorates of the Interior Ministry, the Border Police General Directorate, the General Directorate Combating Organized Crime and the Migration Directorate so far.

So far, employees of the National Police Directorate General, the Sofia Directorate of Internal Affairs (SDIA) and regional directorates of the Ministry of Interior, the Border Police Directorate General, the Directorate General for Combating Organised Crime and the Migration Directorate have checked 1,603 addresses, 24,786 vehicles and 36,448 people.

A total of 99 people were detained on Wednesday in a police operation to counter illegal migration across the country.
